The new “Close the Gap” section of the Eastern Trail is now OPEN

The wait is over—the “Close the Gap” section of the Eastern Trail is officially OPEN!

Whether you’re a cyclist, walker, runner, or simply love exploring Maine’s outdoors, we can’t wait for you to check it out!

Experience Maine’s newest trail connection as we walk and ride through this beautiful new stretch, creating an even more seamless journey along the Eastern Trail and the East Coast Greenway.

The Town of Scarborough, in partnership with the City of South Portland and the Eastern Trail Alliance, celebrates the official grand opening of a new segment that links the Greenbelt section in South Portland with the trail in Scarborough, passing through the beautiful Scarborough Marsh. There is now a continuous trail from South Portland’s Bug Light to downtown Saco.

Pictures from the Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening Ceremony can be viewed here.

You can view two videos of the new section below, one showing a “first ride” following the ribbon cutting, and the second showing drone “fly-over” footage. Watch these videos, then make plans to come experience it for yourself.
