Events on the Eastern Trail - 2019

Happy people enjoying the Eastern Trail!

There are many fun events that take place on a regular basis on the Eastern Trail! You can also find additional events on our online ETA Calendar.

Help us develop new activities on the trail:

  • Consider leading an activity on the trail — a walk, a bicycle ride, OR a birding expedition. Please This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with your idea!
  • Consider hosting an event on the trail that takes advantage of its fine resources. An example of such an event is the Snowy Egret Run/Walk for the Marsh, held on the Trail each Memorial Day weekend. Such events need to fill out a Event Request Application.

Events on this page are organized with Trailwide events first, then specific sections:  So. Portland-Scarborough-OOB-Saco, Biddeford-Arundel-Kennebunk, and Eliot, South Berwick, Berwick, Kittery, North Berwick, Wells.  At times we will also list other interesting Maine, New England region and national trail events here.

Upcoming Trailwide Events:

  • Wednesday, May 8th – Eastern Trail Annual Meeting | Location – Vinegar Hill Theater, Arundel.
  • Maine Lighthouse Ride — Saturday, September 7, 2019. This is our premier event for the year, and we will once again cap the ride at 1200 registered riders! We sell out each year, so please register early. If you do not wish to ride and still want to participate, please consider volunteering to help support the ride. More information here.

Upcoming So. Portland-Scarborough-OOB-Saco Section Events:

  • Friday, April 19, Full Moon Walk, Scarborough, 7-8:30 pm; Pine Point Parking Lot - Scarborough (map). Join the Eastern Trail representative look for animals, learn about the trail, enjoy conversation and walk in the light of the full moon. Please leave your devices behind and enjoy the peace of the trail. FMI please call 207-284-9260. No Flashlights or Pets Please. Please check our FaceBook page for possible cancellation.
  • Saturday, May 18 – Third Annual John Andrew Memorial 5K - 9AM; O’Reilly’s Cure restaurant – Scarborough. Registration is open - Register Now!
  • Monday, May 27, Snowy Egret 5K Run/Walk, Scarborough, 8:30 am; Peterson Field, 135 Old Blue Point Rd (map). The 11th Annual Snowy Egret 5K returns to Scarborough Marsh and the Eastern Trail on Memorial Day 2019! The Snowy Egret 5K is the primary annual fundraiser for Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center, with additional proceeds benefiting Eastern Trail Alliance. The 5K course covers both pavement and dirt paths along the Eastern Trail. FaceBook page More information here.

Upcoming Biddeford-Arundel-Kennebunk Section Events:

Upcoming Eliot, South Berwick, Berwick, North Berwick, Wells Section Events:

  • Friday, April 19th – Earth Day Celebration and Trail Dedication at Laudholm Farm - 8 am - 3 pm; Laudholm Farm Road, Laudholm Farm Rd, Wells, ME 04090, USA (map). This Earth Day event is sponsored by Planeteers of Southern Maine and Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm. Eastern Trail Alliance will have an informational table with complimentary off-road ETA maps available. Come by and meet fellow trail enthusiasts and learn about the current projects and about taking the trail form Kennebunk to the Berwicks! Celebrate beautiful planet Earth at the family friendly, fun and free event!

Here are some exciting group trail events planned for 2019:

      • Maine Lighthouse Ride — Our Biggest Event takes place September 7, 2019. This is our premier event for the year, and once again will be capped at 1200 registered riders! Each year we sell out early, so register now! Three great ride options:
        • Century  (100-mile) 7:30 am (See all 9 lighthouses.)
        • 62-mile   (metric century) 8:15 am (8 lighthouses visible)
        • 40-mile   9:00 am (8 lighthouses visible)
      • Lunch and Loop Rides. To acquaint participants with the beauty of the Eastern Trail and increase two-wheeled camaraderie, the Eastern Trail Alliance will sponsor from three to five bike rides. To allow riders to enjoy Maine’s seasonal changes, ride organizer Russ Lamer will lead them from Spring through Fall. More information here.
      • Happy people enjoying the Eastern Trail!ET Moonlight treks are scheduled throughout the year, often every month -— walking in the summer, snowshoeing and skiing as possible in the winter.

Other Maine, New England Region and National Trail or Related Events:

  • May is National Bike Month, which includes an ever-expanding diversity of events in communities nationwide — but the biggest day of the month is Bike to Work Day. In 2019, Bike to Work Week will be May 13–19, with Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 17. Go here for more information from the League of American Bicyclists.
  • May 9, National Bike to School Day.The event builds on the popularity of Walk to School Day, which is celebrated across the country – and the world – each October. Many communities and schools have been holding spring walk and bicycle to school events for years. National Bike to School Day provides an opportunity for schools across the country to join together to celebrate and to build off of the energy of National Bike Month.. Go here for more information.
