Where did this take place? - All Communities along the Eastern Trail The Eastern Trail Alliance and Rotary joined together in one more step to make the Trail a reality. The Trail-A-Thon helped to connect the 12 communities along the Eastern Trail with an event that was interesting and fun, and one which will continue to grow in years to come to serve as a major "Fall Festival" for citizens and businesses alike. Pictures from the Event - click here Here's more description about the Trail-a-thon: Spanning 85 miles, the on-road Eastern Trail was the location for the first Trail-A-Thon. Each community was involved in plans to be a center of activity with a start and stop point, rest stop, and support location with the option for participants to travel locally, community to community, to a specific destination along the trail, or, for the truly adventurous, the whole length (and some back again!). Representatives from each of the 12 communities (Kittery, Eliot, So. Berwick, No. Berwick, Wells, Kennebunk, Arundel, Biddeford, Saco, Old Orchard, Scarborough, and South Portland) worked together with representatives from each of the nine Rotary Clubs along the Trail (Kittery, the Berwicks, Wells, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Biddeford/Saco, Saco Bay, Scarborough, and South Portland/Cape Elizabeth) to ensure success. The monies raised will be used for the continued development of the Eastern Trail. Make your plans for 2003 - Dig out your walking shoes, sneakers, hiking boots, bicycles, scooters, skates, skateboards, strollers, pets, and horses and plan on joining family and friends on an outdoor excursion through "Community" in fall 2003. As in 2002, the day is marked on our calendar as crisp with plenty of sunshine and colorful with all the glory Maine does best that time of year. Your plans and participation will send a strong message of public support to funding sources that the Eastern Trail is welcomed in each community and will be used by its citizens. |
