Eastern Trail Extension Approved in South
Portland
Jim Gailey, ETA Trustee and South Portland City Site Planner,
reports on the "Madison Street Walkway," which extends the
present Greenbelt Walkway in South Portland to Bug Light Park. This
is the northern end of the proposed Eastern Trail
The Madison Street Walkway will be the first of three new sections of trail to come on-line in South Portland over the
next five years. The new walkway is approximately 2,000 linear feet in length and will be paved to a width of 10-feet.
The new walkway will provide a key connection between the terminus of the existing Greenbelt Walkway at Pickett Street and
the walkway at Bug Light Park. Both MDOT and City financing is being used for the $190,000.00 project budget. The City
received three bids on the project ranging from $113,340 to $189,319. Dearborn Brother Construction, of Buxton, Maine
submitted the low bid of $113,340, resulting in a savings of $75,000 from the original budgeted amount.
There are three other pages with text and pictures
describing the new sections of the Greenbelt trail in South Portland:
