Saco PASSES its Eastern Trail Bond
Saco PASSED its $500,000 Eastern Trail bond to help fund ET construction from downtown Saco at Thornton Academy to Cascade Road. Bond conditions require at least $1,000,000 from MaineDOT before any Saco Bond funds can be spent. The bond passed with over 64% voting YES. ETA owes thanks to Mayor Johnston, Councilor Eric Cote, ETMD President Bob Hamblen, Saco Bay Trails, ETA members, but most of all Saco?s voters. The Trust For Public Land added its prestigious voice late in the campaign with its surprising placement of large newspaper ads supporting the bond.

ET Rerouted in S. Berwick
MaineDOT permanently closed the Vines Street Bridge in S. Berwick, thus breaking the Eastern Trail and East Coast Greenway. S. Berwick?s ETMD Trustee Terrence Parker, and Alternate Trustee Anita Rosencrantz, working with Public Works Director Terri Oliver, defined a new route depicted on the ETA website. Signs are being changed to reflect the new route. And, the trail guide will be revised.

Because Rt. 236 has poor sight lines in this area and carries a high volume of fast truck traffic, both north and southbound users of the new route may want to travel on the west side of Rt. 236, walking on paved shoulders for much of the 0.6 miles for safety. A final solution will be to open the off-road ET route following the historic rail corridor.

Saco Bay Trails Request
SBT asks that anyone voting in the Bangor Savings Bank award to a York County non-profit vote for Saco Bay Trails.

2008 Maine 8-Lighthouse Ride
8-Lighthouse Ride the best yet will be even better in 2008 when Southern Maine Community College hosts the ride with a dry wind-free indoor registration area, and after the ride a free cookout and HOT showers for those who wish. Mark Saturday 13 September 2008 in your calendars. Renamed for 2008 the MAINE Lighthouse Ride.

Fall-Winter Newsletter
