ETA Trustees Brandon Gillard bikes with President Bush
During the last weekend in August, President Bush, reported to be in Kennebunkport for a family wedding, found time to enjoy mountain biking with ETA Trustee Brandon Gillard and some of the staff from Cape-Able Bike Shop.
Chamberlain Construction donates ET Access in Old Orchard
Elliott Chamberlain and the City of Saco reached a contract zoning agreement that will provide ET access to the section of the ET corridor between Cascade Road and Old Cascade Road. Land for a small parking lot will also be donated.
Included in the agreement is permanent protection of nearby Cascade Fall with 17 surrounding acres. Chamberlain Construction will additionally build a public parking lot and donate $50,000 to build trails in cooperation with the City and Saco Bay Trails. Chamberlain, praised in Colin Woodard’s Lobster Coast, announced plans to allocate $500,000 for trails in his nearby 300+ acre Saco development.
Why do developers support trails?? See Friday 9/8 NY Times
for a story about why developer support trails. It’s good for business.

GQ Magazine Praises ET
Wil Hylton’s story about biking the East Coast Greenway in 2005 makes interesting reading in this September’s issue of GQ Magazine. Wil singled out the ET and the ECG from Newburyport, Mass. To Portland as one of the four best sections of the 2,600-mile East Coast Greenway. The team that picked the On-Road ET may have done an even better job than they imagined.
OOB Project to mark ET loop ride
In 2003 ETA defined a ten-mile OOB loop ride. Dan Stewart, MaineDOT Bike Ped Coordinator, has proposed marking Maine’s loop rides. OOB may be first as the town is considering adding signs and pavement markings to the ten-mile loop. OOB’s Chamber has been distributing copies of the ETA’s map for several years.
