A group of dedicated Eastern Trail volunteers set up an
information and registration site in Scarborough. at the trailhead parking lot west of Black Point Road.
From here the Eastern Trail goes north to South Portland, and
south across the marsh and beyond. |
Quite a crowd gathered on this somewhat-rainy morning.
Actually, two trips departed from the trailhead parking lot west of Black Point Road.
The 3-mile Scarborough Marsh walk was led on the Off-Road ET by ETA volunteers.

Trustee Bruce Wakefield making sure that Portland Press Herald
reporter Deirdre Fleming has all the information she needs about
the Eastern Trail and its volunteers. Deirdre and Gregory Rec spent
a day cycling the 77-mile on-road Eastern Trail (click here to read their great
article) and then joined the festivities on Trail-A-Thon day in
Old Orchard Beach |
A
group of very happy cyclists riding in Old Orchard Beach on the
Eastern Trail. They are very much enjoying the off-road
beauty of the trail as it follows the old Eastern Trail rail
line. A just a small part of their joy is riding on a
section of the Eastern Trail corridor that is in fact owned by the
Eastern Trail. It's the start of a great trail that together
we can and will build!! |

(Fallansby-Francoeur) and Brigitte Kablitz at the Kennedy School in
Biddeford prior to their Trail-A-Thon ride along the On Road Eastern Trail
down to Kennebunk. At the Kennebunk Creamery, by coincidence, the group
met some other cycling friends and paused for a break to drink some hot
chocolate and snacks before proceeding towards the coast in increasingly
heavy rain. The idea was to ride along Route 9 for the return trip to
Biddeford, but due to the rain, the group decided to take a short cut along
back roads back to their vehicles at the Kennedy School. In spite of the
rain, it was a good ride, as evidenced by the several impromptu stops to
talk and socialize. |
